Overview

Artist and producer HAZ leveraged SHARE technology to share the revenue generated from sales of his beat, COTTON MOUF, with his audiences on Instagram and X (Twitter).

  • The goal was to increase awareness and sales of the beat.
  • Social sharing was incentivized by offering a 50% share in the revenue generated by sales to a maximum of 25 people.
  • SHARE smart contracts established revenue ownership rights and enabled real-time payments to participants as the beat was purchased.
  • The split owners collectively earn indefinitely as others continue to purchase the beat.

“I’ve been selling beats for about eight or nine years, mostly in person or online, reaching out to artists I liked or saw as up-and-coming. I’d DM them with the usual pitch, offering my beats. But what really stood out to me about Formless/SHARE is it’s like planting a tree that everyone can benefit from. Whether it's a beat, song, or video, it allows everyone involved to share in the revenue, which I think is really powerful.”

What He Did

Strategy

  • HAZ uploaded his beat, COTTON MOUF, to SHARE and set a price point of $25.00 for anyone who wants to buy it.
  • He offered revenue sharing to a maximum of 25 co-owners.
  • To drive awareness within his community, he posted a video to both Twitter (X) and Instagram, and announced that anyone who reshared his content would receive a link to join the splits on the digital property.
  • He further explained that split owners would collectively earn alongside him every time someone purchased his beat.
  • SHARE smart contracts streamlined the distribution of ownership rights and payouts to participants.

Technology

SHARE smart contracts managed the ownership rights of the revenue stream generated by transactions and routed payments to co-owners whose payout balance could be viewed via the SHARE dashboard application interface.

Splits Allocation

Revenue-sharing rights were granted to the first 25 people who reshared the posts on either platform. HAZ authenticated the reposts and directed participants to claim co-ownership on the SHARE application interface. Each participant received $0.02 for every $1.00 generated from sales.

Building Community

HAZ’s pivot towards using SHARE technology was a conscious move to take more control over his art and its earning potential. By inviting his community to join him, he co-opted their support by giving them a stake in his success. Additionally, he gained access to the email addresses of all 25 participants for future marketing or community-building efforts.

Outcomes

  • Participants were incentivized to generate awareness surrounding the release of COTTON MOUF by giving them a direct stake in its success.
  • The SHARE protocol distributed revenue payments in real time to Haz’s community members.
  • Each co-owner earns $0.02 for every $1.00 the smart contract generates in perpetuity.
  • The results from this independent launch highlight the potential for expanding the revenue-sharing model beyond music to other digital properties and products.
